Cymbals bleeding into your tom mics can make processing really difficult. In this video I share a tip for splitting the attack and sustain portions of the drum hit to completely remove the unwanted cymbal bleed.
TLDR;
- Trim recording to isolate the tom hits
- split the tom hit after the transient/attack (optionally drag to new track)
- apply a LoPass Filter to the tom tail/sustain as item fx
- crossfade attack and sustain sections
- apply EQ to track for overall tone shaping.
