Godox sent me their new VDS-M2 short shotgun microphone to review and today I’m using it as a boom mic for a typical indoor tutorial video setup. You’ll also hear it connected to an iPad as a usb mic.

Thanks to Godox for sponsoring this video, providing the mic, light and softbox.

Final thoughts

While the the self-noise is higher than I’d like, and the USB functions are not everything I’d like to see/hear, I do enjoy the natural sound captured by the mic when used for a close overhead boom. Compared with the other similar mics I have available, this makes me sound the most like me.

The convenience of built-in battery and auto-on/off, compact size, and natural sound makes this a solid option in my opinion.
