In this video I break down an effect chain for an acoustic guitar including many free plugins included with REAPER.

What is your favorite trick to do with delays on guitar? Let me know in the comments.

I’ve been using delay for vocal and guitar fattening since the ’70’s. Started with the Cooper Time Cube that was an acoustic delay line with fixed delays. I’d point out that one of the great things about the Readelay is that it IS musical. It can be set for fractional eighth notes if your time base is set correctly. Simple math yields .5 for 1/16th note delays, .25 for 1/32 note delays, etc. Somewhere around the 32nd note range is great for doubling effects. Simulating tape delays is pretty simple with roll offs. I LOVE the feature of nearly unlimited taps.

When I’m looking for a mild, clean, short verb without a lot of extra color (ex: guitar room), using 2-3 taps of ultra short delay with different ms and panning can create some nice space without sounding too slapbacky.
