Sound Designer Vijay Rathinam has sent in another great tip for sound editing workflow. In this one he shares a custom action that allows him to work with layers of sounds within one track. This is different from Free Item Positioning mode you may have seen before and can be used for recording too.

Trim contents behind media items must be OFF
Show overlapping media in lanes must be ON

Custom Record Layers with Auto Crossfade Off

  • Options: New recording creates new media items in separate lanes (layers)
  • Options: Disable auto-crossfades
  • Options: Disable auto-crossfade on split

Custom Set Record Mode To Tape Style With Auto-Crossfades On

  • Options: New recording trims existing items behind new recording (tape style)
  • Options: Enable auto-crossfade on split
  • Options: Enable auto-crossfades
