A dynamic effect is one that responds to the volume of the incoming signal. This is often used for dynamic delays (aka ducking delay) to reduce the echo level while the input is loud, then it comes up between notes.

I’ve been using the AIR Dynamic Delay in my virtual guitar rig and really liking how easy it is to dial in the feedback and mix amounts for clean delays.

Any effect can be made to follow dynamics using Parameter Modulation in REAPER. In the video I demonstrate this with ReaDelay and modulating the Wet and Feedback controls with the input signal, for a similar result to the AIR Dynamic Delay, though in more steps.

In other videos I’ve shown similar ideas using sidechain compression, but this time it’s all in a single fx-chain.

To make any fx dynamic:

Touch an fx parameter, then go to the Param Menu and select Parameter Modulation/MIDI Link

Enable Audio Control Signal and adjust settings for desired range of movement

In this case I wanted the Feedback slider to move in negative direction when the input was loud, and the range was scaled to 30% on the strength slider.

Thanks for reading/watching. I really hope you found this tip useful.
