Behind the Scenes with Tycho’s Console-1 and ReaLearn Configuration

Scott Hansen, also known as Tycho, is an American musician, producer, and visual artist. He is best known for his atmospheric and ambient music, which blends elements of electronic, pop, and post-rock to create a distinctive soundscape.

Hansen started producing music under the name Tycho in the early 2000s, and has since released several highly acclaimed albums, including “Past Is Prologue”, “Dive”, and “Awake”.

In addition to his musical work, Hansen is also known for his distinctive visual style, which often features abstract, geometric imagery and a minimalist color palette. He creates all of the artwork for his albums and live shows, and his aesthetic has become a defining aspect of the Tycho brand.

Scott recently shared a video overview of how he’s remapped the Softube Console 1 controller using the ReaLearn extension for REAPER to control REAPER functions, PSP Infinistrip, and more.

Using multiple instances of ReaLearn he’s able to swap to entirely separate mappings, and also integrating other devices like the Novation Launchpad for monitoring functions in Genelec’s software.

I’m currently learning ReaLearn for my X-Touch series, and I’ve been lusting for a Console 1 for years, so seeing this pop up on YouTube was a very pleasant surprise.

I’ve had the pleasure of talking to Scott a few times over the past couple years and I always love seeing his complex systems built for his live show and mixing. I also love seeing how he is willing to completely scrap it all and start over several times to get it right.
