One of my favorite things to do in mix is run tracks through my guitar pedals for textured distortion and other effects. When processing stereo sources, I often switch to M/S to get around not having matched pedals for left and right. To get the audio out of reaper and back in I use the ReaInsert plugin.
It takes a bit of setup time but I find it worth doing for the more interesting sounds that can be achieved with hands on controls. At the very least it’s a fun thing to do to break up a long mix session.
